2,3 & 4.... MovieWorld on the GC

Chapter 1: The Birthday Weekend Commences!
With the quest begun at Luna Park in Sydney, the aim was to ride the next few rollercoasters north on the Gold Coast, with my friends and family subjected to my desire to spend my actual 40th birthday upside down! The plan was to spend the day as though we were already in the US chasing down 40 rollercoasters. Kelly, Justyn and I arrived on the GC on Friday, 26 March before everyone else and got the party started at the hotel's happy hour by throwing back a few margarita's. Mum and Dad arrived a little later and we continued the party down by the pool when Lynda, Brian, Josi, Patrick and Jenny joined us on the night before the big 4-0. It was an awesome barbie around the pool with the best ever birthday cake made especially for me by Kel :o)

Chapter 2: Super Heroes and a Scooby Doo (yes they are rollercoasters!)
March 27 was the big morning of my birthday and we all trooped off to Movie World like excited kids (well me certainly) to get rides 2, 3 and 4 crossed off the list. The first ride was straight ahead - The Superman Escape which was ride #2. Kelly, Lynda, Brian, Josi, Patrick and I waited in the queue which announced only a 20 minute wait, however out wait turned out longer due to someone revisiting their breakfast and they had to mop and clean it out and send it through its loops a few times to dry it out! This is a really cool rollercoaster - it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in two seconds flat! After Superman, a few of us including my dad(!) jumped on the Batwing Spaceshot which we didn't count as a rollercoaster - but still pretty awesome! It is a rapid 4.5G vertical launch up a 60 meter tower, followed by a drop into a breathtaking negative descent - beyond freefall! Dad loved it! Shrek 4D was a lot of fun for us all and then we all headed over to the Wild West Falls which was a log ride, again heaps of fun as we all wanted to ride it. Quite a few of the group were drenched but the birthday gods were smiling on the birthday girl who came through completely dry! After lunch and a photo op with The Mystery Machine, Fred, Velma, Shaggy and of course Scooby Doo, absolutely everyone jumped on rollercoaster #3 - The Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster. This was a blast! An indoor coaster, it featured smoke, lighting and laser effects as well as a giant spider that jumps out of you all while you are zipping around in the dark not knowing which way the little car will spin. Let's do it again! And ride #4 was the Lethal Weapon ride - an inverted steel coaster that is floorless - yes that's right, the floor drops down and then with your feet hanging free, it chucks you around loops and corkscrews for nearly 2 minutes!
It had been an awesome day at Movie World but there was still time for everyone to ride one more ride which was the motion platform simulator-style ride The Batman Adventure.
Chapter 3: Ode to the USA - Hard Rock Cafe Does Dinner (& HUGE margarita's!)
To commemorate our upcoming holiday to the US as part of the "Carolyn Can Coaster" expedition, I wanted to go to the Hard Rock Cafe for my 40th birthday dinner. When we arrived back at the hotel from Movie World, we all had a couple of party starters and then walked up to Cavill Avenue to the Hard Rock. We had a really nice night, with some good food, great drinks and excellent company. The music might have been a bit too loud, the service a little slow, but we made up for it!

What a brilliant birthday - thank you thank you thank you thank you to everyone who called, texted and especially to Mum and Dad, Justyn and Kelly, Lynda, Brian, Josi, Patrick and Jenny for making the trek to the GC to celebrate with me - it was a birthday to beat all birthdays made all the more special by you guys being crazy with me!!
